marine Debris Technician I

Hometown: Noblesville, Indiana

Current Residence: Lahaina, Maui, Hawaiʻi

Born and raised in a small town in Indiana, Charlotte always dreamed of protecting marine wildlife and saving the ocean. After graduating from Coastal Carolina University, she pursued that passion through nonprofit work in South Africa and hands-on shark research at a remote field station in the Bahamas – where she quickly discovered her strength in fieldwork. But everything shifted the day she encountered a humpback whale calf named Bunsen. That life-changing moment sparked a new focus and deep connection with humpback whales. Since 2019, Charlotte has dedicated herself to studying the North Pacific humpback whale population, migrating between Juneau, Alaska and Maui, Hawaii. In the winter months she works as a naturalist on Maui and has earned a spot on the Responder rescue team, helping disentangle whales from ghost nets and fishing gear. She is honored to be apart of the PMDP 2025 team to do her part and live out her dream of saving the ocean and protecting marine wildlife.

When she is not on the water protecting ocean giants, you’ll find her surfing (falling), cliff jumping, sailing at sunset, or shelling with her friends.
