ʻAukai hails from the east side of Oahu and has grown up as an ocean enthusiast through wave riding. Having just completed his Masters degree, Mario takes pride in being an educated Hawaiian in a position where he can  malama his environment. 

ʻAukai has been spending the last year restoring coral reefs with Kuleana Coral. Although he has been able to breath underwater for most of his recent missions, he assures the crew he can hold his breath.
